English with Jony and Yelena

Hi, I’m Jony. My wife and I established and run a popular school for English Studies for children (grades 1-12) and adults in Rishon Lezion. The corona virus and now the war have brought everything to a halt and we ended up having to close for a month and a half. We managed to reopen and we are really happy to meet the students! A loan will help ensure the school can stay open and function normally through this challenging time.

My impact loan status:

$13,206 / $13,445

Micro lending, Macro Impact

Since the school had to temporarily close, many students dropped out, their payments were stopped and postponed, and we credited students for the period when there were no studies. Daily activities and sales have been affected, so we have been fundraising.

In the meantime, we managed to reopen the school and a loan will ensure we keep it open through this difficult period.

My business - My spark

Yelena’s and my business is an English Studies school in Rishon Lezion for children in grades 1-12 and for adults. The studies take place in groups that meet and learn in an experiential way, with lots of games, that encourages them to enjoy learning the language. We also offer online courses, mainly for adults, and also for children.

Yelena was one of the best private English teachers in the city, and she wanted to teach more children and give them confidence in the English language. She developed a pedagogy of experiential studies in small groups, and we put an emphasis on spoken English so that students learn to speak freely.

A few more words

Yelena and I live in Rishon Lezion with two sweet two-year-old twin girls. We founded the business together in 2015 and we complement each other: Yelena immigrated to Israel at the age of 6 from Ukraine, speaks 5 languages (Chinese, English, Arabic, Russian and Hebrew), is an interpreter and an English teacher and is responsible for all pedagogy, the students and the teaching staff in the business. I used to work in a bank, decided to join her in setting up the business and am responsible for all marketing and development.
